About VG90

A love letter to the golden age of video games, built like a modern archive.

What this is

VG90 — Video Game 90's — is a reference and discovery archive for the culture of 80s, 90s and early-2000s gaming: the machines, the genres, the studios, the box art, the arcades, and the feeling of blowing into a cartridge like it was science.

We document games with structured metadata — year, platform, genre, theme, perspective, visual style — and pair it with editorial writing that treats these games as the cultural works they are.

What this is not

VG90 does not host ROMs, ISOs, cracks or any copyrighted game files, and it never will. We believe retro gaming deserves preservation done right: through legal re-releases, public-domain and freeware titles, homebrew communities and rights-holder-approved sources. Our legal policy spells this out.

About the current catalogue

The entries you see today are original, fictional retro-inspired games created to demonstrate the archive: original titles, original cover art, original descriptions. They are a working blueprint — the structure is ready for documenting real public-domain, freeware and homebrew classics with verified legal status.

The design

The neon, the scanlines, the floating cartridges — VG90's interface borrows the texture of the era it documents. Under the hood it is a fast, hand-built site: semantic HTML, no trackers, and progressive enhancement so it works even with JavaScript switched off.
